Call for Lewis Hall in England's Nations League Squad

Lee Carsley is encouraged to select Lewis Hall for England's Nations League matches in November. With his standout performances at Newcastle, Hall offers much-needed balance at left-back, as England eyes promotion in their group.

Lee Carsley has been encouraged to include Newcastle United's Lewis Hall in the England squad for the upcoming Nations League games. England is set to face Greece in Athens on Thursday, November 14, before returning to Wembley to play against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday, November 17, as they look to wrap up their Nations League campaign. Currently sitting second in their group, England needs just a point to secure their place in League A for the next round of Nations League A matches.

As Thomas Tuchel is slated to become the England manager in the upcoming year, Carsley will take charge of the last two games as the interim manager before resuming his responsibilities with the Under-21 team. This is Carsley's final opportunity to experiment, and there have been numerous calls for him to give 20-year-old Hall his first senior international call-up.

Hall, who was named Newcastle’s Player of the Month for October, has impressed with his consistent performances, especially considering the lack of options at left-back for England. Stuart Pearce believes it is an ideal opportunity to give Hall a chance, as a natural left-back, to provide the team with better balance and avoid the mistakes made in Euro 2024, where right-backs like Kieran Trippier were used on the left side.

Pearce told talkSPORT: “Hall’s natural left foot gives him an advantage. England has often used right-footed players in the left-back role. Watching him play against Arsenal, especially when facing Bukayo Saka, who can take advantage of any weakness, I thought he performed outstandingly in defense and demonstrated maturity. He’s consistently playing for Newcastle, and it would be surprising if he weren't included in the team. He provides balance and has been reliable both defensively and offensively.”

According to Pearce, Hall meets all the necessary criteria. He is a regular player for one of the leading teams in the Premier League and has been consistently performing well, which makes him a strong contender for the squad.
