Luke Shaw Faces New Injury Setback During Preseason

During his pre-match press conference before the League Cup match against Leicester, Ten Hag discussed Shaw's situation

Manchester United’s seasoned left-back Luke Shaw is encountering another obstacle in his recovery journey due to a new calf injury sustained during preseason training. This recent issue prolongs his absence from the field to a total of 254 days, starting from February 18 of the last season. The 29-year-old's persistent injury struggles have left United without their main left-back for almost a year, posing significant difficulties for Erik ten Hag's team in their quest for defensive stability.

During his pre-match press conference before the League Cup match against Leicester, Ten Hag discussed Shaw's situation, stressing the importance of handling it correctly. "We know his past, and we can’t afford to have him playing for a few games only to be sidelined again," he remarked. The manager pointed out Shaw's vital role in maintaining United's defensive strength and overall performance, reaffirming the club's dedication to ensuring his full recovery before he returns to play.

For Shaw, this most recent injury is yet another frustrating setback in a pattern that has impeded his career, constraining his ability to consistently demonstrate his skills. Despite this, his determination is clear, as each recovery from injury has allowed him to contribute invaluable experience, composure, and tactical insight to the team—attributes that are sorely missed when he's absent. The hope is that a careful approach to his rehabilitation will facilitate a lasting return, enabling him to anchor United's defense and perform at the standard expected of a top-level Premier League defender.
