The Leicester midfielder only received a yellow card for his studs-first tackle on Palmer’s right ankle, which left fans, pundits, and players questioning the decisions made by both the on-field referee Andrew Madley and VAR official Paul Tierney.
The event occurred in the 22nd minute while Chelsea was up 1-0 following Nicolas Jackson's opening goal, leaving Palmer in agony on the ground. Given the nature of the contact, many anticipated that Ndidi would receive a red card. However, the Premier League Match Centre subsequently released a statement justifying their decision, stating that the tackle 'lacked intensity' due to the brief distance between Ndidi and Palmer at the time of impact.
This explanation did not resonate with Chelsea icon Joe Cole, who voiced his discontent on TNT Sports during the halftime break. 'Look at the location of the ball and then see where Ndidi's right foot is,' he remarked. 'The ball is there, and then bang, I’m going to take you out.
